The ScreenShottr service

We aim to be as transparent as possible about how we store your images!

Encryption
We encrypt all images by default using the Rijandael 256 in CBC Mode algorithm using a key randomly generated from OpenSSL Psuedo Random Generator, we then hash this value using various algorithms RIPEMD160 and SHA512. All encryption is server side. The key is not stored on the server. The encryption key is sent to the client and is deleted from all variables on the server.
Images are, where possible (Excl. the Desktop Capture application) uploaded using TLS/SSL. All images, when served to clients are served over TLS/SSL.
We use CloudFlare to cache images stored on the ScreenShottr service to ensure high speed delivery of images to users using CloudFlare's WorldWide CDN. You are bound by CloudFlared Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Images may not be encrypted while cached using CloudFlare.

Verification
For every image uploaded we check whether they are valid images, if so we will store them. If not an error will be returned.

Hotlinking
We don't believe in restricting users, we are an image hosting service. As such we don't mind where you use images hosted by us. You may hotlink images directly from the ScreenShottr service.
There are exceptions to this, for example sites that are illegal under EU or US law.

API
We do not have a public API (Yet). However we do provide methods for applications to upload to the ScreenShottr service and get results returned. While uploading you can add the ?return=json parameter to the /upload URI.

Deletion
Images are deleted under one of three circumstances.

  • Legal request
  • Automated deletion
  • User deletion

While we aim to provide a platform that will host any content (within legal boundaries of the United States and Europe), we may receive abuse reports from members of the public or Law Enforcement. If a report is received from a member of the public or a Law Enforcement service, then we will do whatever we deem appropriate in regards to deletion of the image. However if a request with legal standing is sent to us, we will remove the image as soon as is possible. Due to the way the ScreenShottr service stores no information on it's uploaders, we will not be able to inform you of this.

Images will be automatically deleted if they have not been viewed for Three months (91.5 days). In order to prevent this you, or someone else must view your image at least once every three months. This process will not be interrupted by the ScreenShottr service.

A user can delete an image if the uploader holds a secret key. This key will be provided only to clients that are capable of receiving it. While we are able to recover a secret key for an image, we will not as we are not able to verify who the uploader of an image is due to the fact that we store no information. A secret key can be seen when using the web uploader and the Java application.

What can I do, what can't I?
